HIGH ROCK GOSPEL SINGERS

Created in 1997  by the initiative of Pastor Frédéric Setodzo and his colleague Albert Luther, the group of young people from the Protestant parish of Hautepierre presents a veritable challenge. Hautepierre (in the suburb of Strasbourg, in Alsace), an area that is notorious for violence, young people there are always reduced to a caricature which fails to represent the richness of their potentials. The two founders chose to make it their mission to unite these young people in order to set a constructive entertainment in cooperation with them, an entertainment which would allow them to make the best use of their creativity and to find solutions for the problems of their area. The group soon discovered the Negro Spiritual and Gospel and so turns into a choir: the High Rock Gospel Singers.

Afro-Americans were the first to develop the gospel followed by the whites in the South of the United States, but it ended up conquering the rest of America and the world. At present, the gospel is a vast universe filled with rhythms and sounds that elevate the soul and make it go beyond emotions. More known for its traditional melodies, the gospel has been witnessing a profound change since a few years, a change that gave birth to a contemporary urban style shaped by the rhythms of the blues, rap and even funk.
