The “Young Virtuosos at Ennejma Ezzahra” festival aims to offer  both Tunisian and expatriate audience,  an opportunity to discover accomplished performers, aged under twenty five, who have won national and international competitions.

Since its inception in 2006, the festival has featured scores of budding musicians from East and West and particularly   Tunisian young talents who are today among the most sought after musicians on the local music scene.

By focusing on vocals, the upcoming ninth festival is sure to attract the attention of an audience who has been conquered in the past by the prowess of young performers playing on various instruments, interpreting various types and genres. From   February 11th through February 15th 2015, young talents from Tunisia (Nabeul, Gafsa, Tunis) and also from Germany, Portugal, Poland, Italy, Austria and Russia will be the stars that illuminate five consecutive evenings at the palace Ennejma Ezzahra. The first part of the evening, will be dedicated to vocals, while the second part will feature accomplished performers  on various instruments such as  guitar, piano, violin and cello.

The Centre for Arab and Mediterranean Music wishes to thank all its historic partners for their support to this festival and recognize the unrelenting support of “Tunisie Telecom” which has been backing the Centre’s music activities for years on.

Maria Meireles (Portugal)

 

Maria Meireles started her musical studies in 1999, at the Gregoriano Institute of Lisbon (Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa). Between 2006 and 2011, she was part of the Lisbon Cantat Symphonic Choir. She finished her musical studies at the Higher School of Music in Lisbon in 2012. 

 

Maria started her singing training in 2011, at the School of Music of the National Conservatory, where she was part of the choir « Musaico », directed by the conductor / professor Tiago Marques. During the summer of 2011, she was invited by the conductor Artur Carneiro to be part of the Musical Workshops of Grillon, in France. 

 

In 2012, Maria participated as a soprano in the Ricercare Choir, directed by the conductor Pedro Teixeira. In 2013, she continued her studies at the National Conservatory in the field of chamber music and created, with three other colleagues, the vocal Quartet Qvadrante Evropa, with which she presented, at the Musical October of 2013 in Carthage, the concert « A travel through time » (Chamber music from the Medieval era to the 21st century)

 

Anna Buda (Poland)

 

Anna Maria Buda was born in 1992, in Krakow. She took part in a number of international violin competitions : Louise Henriette Oranienburg (Germany), Andrea Postacchini in Fermo (Italy), Winner of the Multi-instrumental contest in Krakow (Poland, 2002), Winner of the 22nd International Violin Contest in Citta ‘di Barletta (Italy, 2012), First Violin Contest « Young Virtuosos » (Poland, 2013)

 

Anna was also member of the World Youth Orchestra during the festival « Musica Riva » (Riva del Garda, 2011) and member of the orchestra of the « Luslawice » Academy. She played in France, Ukraine, Norway and Iceland with the Chamber Orchestra of Krakow.

 

She took part in a number of masterclasses with Walentyna Jakubowska, Marina Jaszwili, Michal Grabaczyk, Vadim brodski and many others.  Since 2012, she also took a interest in contemporary music. She cooperates with various composers such as Zaid Jabri, Wassim Ibrahim and presented many concerts with Bugla Ensemble and Krakow Oboe Quartet (since 2013).
